STEM CELLS: Personal Connection
Why Is This Important to Me?
I have heard this debate come up when President George W. Bush banned government funding of stem cell research in 2001 and it rose up again when President Barack Obama revoked that ban in 2009. I have been involved in arguments made by my classmates and I have listened to many other people speak on this matter. I have grown up with this debate and I believe it is one that should be looked at.
What is My Personal Opinon on the Matter?
I believe human life is a sacred thing. That being said, I also believe that a human is considered to be alive at conception. However, the potential benefit of stem cells is too great to be ignored. I believe that the use of Embryotic Stem Cells is immoral, but there are alternatives known as Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells that are beginning to show potential. This type of stem cell is discussed in the "Taking Action" section of the Stem Cells section.
